But what does that mean for you?
The new Healthy Homes legislation was passed last week, but what does that mean for insulating rental properties?
In short – rules around new insulation requirements haven’t changed. That means if your rental property doesn’t meet the insulation requirements, you still must insulate in the ceiling and underfloor by 1 July 2019.
As part of the new legislation the Government is looking at new healthy home standards that will be worked out over the next year also involving heating, ventilation, draught stopping, drainage and moisture.
However, none of these new standards will affect the current requirements for landlords to insulate their rental properties. Landlords can have confidence that getting on to the work now is in the best long term interest for their rental properties.
The government has announced that landlords, public health specialists, building science experts, and industry representatives will all have the chance to be involved in creating the new minimum standards.
More information on this process will be made known as it’s developed over the next year.
